Belfast boxer Michael Conlon is to dress as Gerry Adams and be led to the ring by a delegation of prominent Sinn Fein members for his next fight, according to reports this morning.
It’s a move which has infuriated the PUL community even further after the 27-year-old controversially entered the ring on St Patrick’s night to fans chanting ‘Ooh ah, up the ‘RA’.
The super bantamweight fighter announced his decision in a Tweet which read:
‘Looking forward to my next ring entrance dressed like my idol and Twitter sensation Gerry Adams’.
The Olympic bronze medalist will be flanked by some of the biggest names in Sinn Fein’s illustrious history including Gerry ‘on it like a car bonnet’ Kelly and the ‘McLovin’ of Nationalism, Niall Ó Donnghaile.
There are even rumours that Michelle O’Neill will be making an appearance as a special guest ring girl – provided she’s able to walk in heels after breaking her leg on a hen do last year.
However, the announcement sent political leaders within Unionism into meltdown.
‘It would give me enormous pleasure to knock several different shades of sh**e out of the wee rat’, said TUV leader Jim Allister.
DUP MP Ian Paisley Jr went as far as to offer Conlan ‘a fair dig’.
‘I’ll fight him anytime, anywhere, any place – as long as the flights are first class and the hotel has a pool’, challenged Paisley.
